ABOUT ME

Why I Chose To Pursue Musical Theatre

I am a small town girl from Southern Illinois, and nearly every assumption that comes with that fact is true. I grew up in a loving, supportive community- whether that was at school, church, our Recreational Center where I lifeguarded for years, or the Mom & Pop Shops I hold close to my heart. The first time I realized how important music and performing was to me is when I began singing at church around the age of 10. I found theater later than most, performing my first show towards the end of my sophomore year in high school. For those who know me, you know I fall hard and fast- this was no different. My passion for musical theatre was undeniable, so I started my career at Western Illinois University as a BFA. Everyday I learn something new and exciting about myself or my career. I feel incredibly lucky to have the love and support of my family and friends as I navigate such a unique field.

FACTS AND FAQS

A GUIDE TO TORI LYNN

FAVORITE ROLE YOU HAVE PLAYED?

Fiona in Shrek.
It may have been a while ago (it was "a while ago" when I made this website- now it feels like eons), but this one is special to me. I found my favorite balances between a character's depth and humor in this role. We also just had a complete blast putting on this show.

I'M A TOTAL DISNEY NERD

Are we surprised?
My ability to identify Disney scores from just the first few seconds is pretty impressive if I do say so myself. Also, Buzzfeed told me that my personality is a mixture of Black Widow and Rapunzel. Take what you will with that one.

PLANS AFTER GRADUATION?

Wherever the wind blows me.
My hope is to work on cruise ships early on in my career. I'm young, driven, and want to travel the world performing. However, opportunities may arise or I might feel a pull to go somewhere else. I also have a passion for mission work so if there is a way I could do both simultaneously, that would be ideal!

MY SISTER IS A CHEMICAL ENGINEER

I think its funny too.

Despite the difference in our fields of choice, she is one of my best friends. She taught me what it means to work hard and for that I am forever grateful.

ANY OTHER THEATRE RELATED SKILLS?

I have been a sound designer since my second semester of college. I have a basic knowledge and understanding about how the audio side of a show works. This skill has made me appreciate the sound designs of other theatre productions, tv shows, and movies, as well as all the people working behind the scenes.

I HAVE TWO DEGREES

Along with my BFA, I successfully received a BA in Communication. I found and continue to find a lot of cross over between acting and communications- they are both about how people act and interact. I also graduated with a Minor in Dance.
